You can trek from the Lai Chau side or the Lao Cai side. The Lao Cai approach has less complicated terrain and is easier to follow. To conquer the mountain, trekkers need 3 days and 4 nights on a 26km route starting from Sang Ma Sao Commune, Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province. The weather is quite cold, and the terrain includes many steep rocky slopes. This mountain is best suited to adventurous trekkers with trekking experience.

Ky Quan San offers many beautiful and distinctive scenes. At the start of the journey, you will see terraced fields cultivated by local people. During the water-pouring season, each flooded terrace reflects the colors of sky, earth, and plants like a living painting. The suitable time to trek Ky Quan San is from September to April of the following year. During this period, high humidity combined with cold weather makes clouds more likely to form. With some luck, you may see an endless white sea of clouds.
