Beautiful Photo Spots on Dreamy Lao Than Mountain

One of the joys of trekking is capturing beautiful natural scenery as memories or stories to share with friends and family. With poetic landscapes and vast skies at 2,860m, Lao Than is an ideal place for photography. The photo spots on Lao Than do not have official names; they are mostly nicknames given by people who visited before.
1. Phin Ho Village peach forest:
Phin Ho Village sits at over 2,000m and captivates visitors with a poetic, almost fairytale-like scene. Local households here grow peach trees, and some even have whole hillsides filled with peach blossoms. The local peach trees are known as mossy peaches because they grow in cold weather, with moss and lichen clinging to their trunks. The blossoms bloom around Tet, but they fade quickly. After only about 2 to 3 weeks, the flowers are gone, so trekkers need to time their visit carefully.

2. Fishing rock ledge
This rock ledge is located at 2,400m. The best time for photos is from 4 to 5 p.m. At this hour, the sunset light is vivid but not too harsh, softly covering the floating white clouds while layers of mountains surround the view. However, because the terrain is quite steep and the large moss-covered rocks can be slippery, trekkers should be extremely careful when taking photos here.
3. Photo rock ledge:
The photo rock ledge near the fishing rock ledge is also worth considering. This spot is safer, and you can capture beautiful moments at any time of day.

4. Swing at A Hoa rest hut:
At 2,600m, the area around A Hoa rest hut is an ideal place to watch the sunset. What could be better than sitting on a swing, sipping a hot coffee, and letting your mind wander amid the vast clouds and sky?

5. Dry-wood sky gate
Local people in Lao Than used many dry tree trunks to create a charming little gate. You can frame your angle to capture the vast sea of clouds behind it.

6. Elephant tree near A Ho rest hut
This is actually a dry tree trunk about 100m from Lao Than summit. What makes it special is its large elephant-head shape. Five to seven people can stand on the trunk and take countless interesting photos.

The Lao Than summit marker is a must-have spot on every trekker’s check-in list. It feels like a stamp proving you have conquered the roof of Y Ty.
One note for trekkers: Lao Than is at its most beautiful from around October to April of the following year. During this time, clouds are abundant and thick, creating a bright, clear sea of white clouds sparkling under the morning sun. To hunt clouds successfully, trekkers should monitor the weather regularly. After rainy days, when humidity is high and the wind is light, the chance of seeing thick clouds is higher.
