K50 Waterfall Hiking Tour: Discover Nature in Its Raw Beauty

K50 Waterfall is an ideal destination for hikers. Today, join To Ong to see what makes a K50 Waterfall hiking tour so rewarding.

K50 Waterfall – Hang En Waterfall

The Central Highlands are a favorite destination for many young hiking lovers. This region is known for its primary forests and spectacular waterfall systems. Among them is the simply named K50 Waterfall in Gia Lai Province.

1. Introduction to the K50 Waterfall hiking tour

Hidden deep in the old forest of Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve in Kbang District, Gia Lai Province, K50 Waterfall looks like a sleeping muse, her long hair flowing over a rocky ledge. That “hair” is more than 50m long, formed by the currents of Dak Say and Dak Xop streams. At the foot of the waterfall is a deep basin of more than 200m2 with many strangely shaped boulders.

Other names for the waterfall

K50 Waterfall is also known locally as Waterfall 50 or Hang En Waterfall. The name Hang En comes from the cave behind the falls, where thousands of swallows live. Each day, you can hear their chirping in the air, free and unhurried.

The best time for a K50 Waterfall hiking tour

You can hike K50 Waterfall at different times of the year. Each season gives the waterfall a different charm that captivates travelers. In the dry season, from November to April of the following year, the weather is dry and hot, and water levels in rivers and lakes drop. K50 Waterfall becomes a little gentler and more shy within the embrace of the forested mountains.

In the rainy season, from May to October, the waterfall seems to gain new life from the rains. Water pours down powerfully amid lush green forest, creating a scene as beautiful as an ink-wash painting. Beautiful as it is, you should still avoid hiking during long periods of thunderstorms and heavy rain.

The K50 Waterfall hike takes 2 days and 1 night over a 17km route. To Ong has chosen an itinerary that is not overly challenging, with mostly gentle slopes. The forest journey is guided by forest rangers and experienced guides.

K50 Waterfall hiking tour: Day one

On the first day, you will travel 12km from Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve to the waterfall. At Kon Chu Rang, you can see the daily life of the Bahnar community firsthand.

While trekking through the forest, you may be lucky enough to spot wild animals, birds, and butterflies moving freely. Kon Chu Rang is blessed by nature with nearly 550 species of higher plants, 62 mammal species, 169 bird species, and up to 161 butterfly species. Many of them are rare and listed in the Red Book.

Continuous movement can be tiring, but near the waterfall there is a campsite where you can leave your belongings and rest. This open forest area is quite close to the falls, with a shelter and space to make a cooking fire.

You will reach K50 Waterfall in the afternoon. Here, you can enjoy the scenery, take photos, or soak in the cool, clear water. In the evening, you will have a chance to enjoy dishes prepared by Bahnar people, gather together for conversation, music, and singing in the heart of the great forest.

K50 Waterfall hiking tour: Day two

The second day begins in the early-morning mist. Sipping a cup of coffee while taking in the scent of the forest is hard to beat. After that, you will experience SUP paddling in the morning sun. After midday, the group walks gently along a trail back to the nature reserve center. You can also choose a forest “grab” experience to return to the Bahnar village for lunch. That brings the K50 Waterfall hiking tour to a close.

3. A few notes for the K50 Waterfall hiking tour

To prepare for a complete K50 Waterfall hiking trip, you should learn carefully about the destination.

  • During a hike, you will likely want to relax in the cool water, so bring enough clothes to change into.
  • You will walk a lot, and may also cross streams or pass muddy sections. Train your fitness before the trip and choose comfortable, lightweight walking shoes with good water resistance.
  • Old-growth forest has many insects, especially leeches. Bring insect repellent in both cream and spray forms.
  • The Central Highlands can be hot during the day, but once night falls, temperatures become much colder. Wearing layers helps you adapt more easily to changing weather.
  • Snacks are, of course, essential for topping up energy throughout the journey. Do not forget to bring enough drinking water for the whole route.
  • There are many viewpoints at K50 Waterfall, from rocks at the base and the large cave behind the curtain of water to even the top of the falls. Hikers should move very carefully because the mossy rocks around the waterfall are slippery.

One K50 Waterfall hiking tour is enough to make you reluctant to leave.
