A plastic bag and water are things almost every trekker has on a trip. Have you ever thought those two items could help create fire? Simply fill the plastic bag with water and place it in sunlight. Then gather a few dry leaves and put them underneath the water bag. You may see something surprising happen. Based on the principle of focusing light, when a water bag is used under strong sunlight and high enough temperature, dry leaves or paper placed underneath can ignite and create fire.

There may be times when you bring a lighter but it unfortunately runs out of gas. Do not throw it away too quickly, because it can still be useful. Find some paper and place it on a dry, flat surface. Then roll the lighter wheel evenly over the paper to create flint shavings. Next, carefully gather those tiny pieces and twist the paper so they sit neatly inside. Bring the lighter close and strike it. Even though the gas is gone, the remaining spark can still ignite the flint shavings inside. Once trekkers know this fire-making trick, they have one less thing to worry about.

It may sound hard to believe, but at this point all you need is an aluminum can, such as a Coca-Cola or Pepsi can, and a chocolate bar to make fire. Rub the chocolate on the bottom of the aluminum can. Remember, after using it to make fire, you should not eat the chocolate again because it has been contaminated by aluminum. Then point the bottom of the aluminum can toward the sun and place flammable material beside the base of the can. With simple items, you can create a flame to help you endure the forest.

Another simple way to make fire is by using steel wool and a battery. This method is easy and can work quickly. All you need to do is place the battery terminal against the steel wool and blow strongly on it. The battery’s current heats and ignites the steel wool, helping a flame appear simply.
Making Fire with Stones
Making fire with a primitive but effective method

This is the most primitive fire-making method you may have seen in old films. Even so, it can still be effective; what you need is patience. Use a knife to shave the bark from a dry branch or dry bamboo to create tinder. Then place the tinder on a flat stone, press another smaller stone on top, and rub strongly, continuously, and gradually faster. If you persist with enough friction for 20 to 30 minutes, a flame will appear.
