Mui Cuc Dong: Finding the Radiant Sunrise That Fills Your Heart
Sunrise is always a beautiful moment, a kind of light that brings positive energy and warms the heart. Mui Doi is home to one of Vietnam’s most special sunrises: the first sunrise on the mainland. Far from flashy, showy, or bustling, sunrise at Mui Cuc Dong glows with wild beauty and carries the sacred meaning of standing at one of the country’s extreme points. Join To Ong as we explore the journey to find that radiant sunlight within your own heart.
The Journey to Mui Cuc Dong
Vietnam’s easternmost point is identified as Mui Doi. This peaceful landmark lies inside Van Phong Bay, in Van Thanh Commune, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province. Mui Doi is about 80 km north of Nha Trang City and about 35 km south of Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province.

The hiking route is around 13 km long and crosses a variety of terrain, beginning with smooth white sand dunes and ending at steep rock faces leading out to the eastern point. After passing through a soft, velvet-like sand desert, where sand stretches in every direction with only a few dry, wild shrubs, slopes and narrow trails through thorny forest begin to appear, testing every hiker’s desire to conquer the route.

After crossing the distinctive and fascinating landscapes of Central Vietnam, you will reach Bai Rang. This wild, beautiful beach is one of Khanh Hoa’s memorable coastal scenes and also the end-of-day stop. Bai Rang unfolds like a striking frame, with a flat sandy shore hugging the sea. Beside it stand solid rocky mountains and wave-washed reefs. The peaceful setting, calm sea, and gentle waves make it ideal for an evening of camping, BBQ, and poetic stargazing. Waking up at Bai Rang, the journey continues with a roped section out to Mui Cuc Dong to “hunt” the sunrise.

The Sacred Mui Cuc Dong
Starting from Bai Rang, you have to cross steep rock faces and experience climbing up the cliff. Beyond the rocks, waves crash beautifully into the white shoreline. Mui Cuc Dong rises before you with its stainless-steel marker. You can check in here to keep the memory, and you can also feel the sacred, proud atmosphere of conquering one of Vietnam’s four extreme points. Rest for a while, then wait with anticipation for the first light of day.

The Beauty of Vietnam’s First Sunrise
The moment the sun rises from the horizon, you may find yourself stunned by the beauty of sea, sky, and mountains. As the sky brightens, the dark sea suddenly reveals a clear blue color. Far away, fishing boats bob gently, adding detail to that captivating blue. When the first rays of sunlight touch the water, it feels as if you can hear nature breathing and stretching awake after a long night.

The sunlight dyes the endless space in gold. Seagulls glide across the sky. Warm colors reflect on the shimmering sea. That image stays deep in our captivated eyes. You can climb onto any rocky outcrop to feel a sense of freedom and take in the full sweep of the ocean and sunrise, as if you have just discovered a precious treasure of nature. The red-gold sunlight, brown rocks, blue sea and sky, and the fishing boats in the distance come together as a vivid, colorful painting.
