Important Things to Know Before Hiking Cuc Dong

Khoảnh khắc đợi bình minh

Cuc Dong has long been known as an ideal place for hiking, a destination awakened by the first sunrise of the country and one that promises exciting, memorable experiences. Before joining a Cuc Dong hiking tour, keep the following important notes in mind so you can have a truly wonderful trip.

Introduction to Cuc Dong

Cuc Dong is located at Mui Doi, on the Hon Gom Peninsula in Van Phong Bay, Van Ninh, Khanh Hoa Province. It is about 100 km from Nha Trang City and has the landmass that extends farthest east toward the East Sea on Vietnam’s mainland, making it the place that receives Vietnam’s first sunrise.

Beyond that sacred meaning, Cuc Dong attracts many people because of its stunning natural scenery. Along the way, you pass smooth sand dunes, narrow winding trails with cliffs on one side and the sea on the other, and rock formations rising in all kinds of shapes between land and sky. With such a varied journey, this is surely a scenic hiking route worth trying.

Choose the Right Time to Hike Cuc Dong

Because this is a coastal hiking route, choosing the right time to join a Cuc Dong tour is important. Influenced by Central Vietnam’s climate, Mui Doi in particular and Khanh Hoa Province in general have two clear seasons: the rainy season and the dry season.

The dry season usually runs from around January to August. During this time, the weather is dry with little rain, so the hiking trail is easier. In the first months of the year, the air is cooler. January to May is especially ideal for conquering this destination. From June to August, the weather becomes hotter and sunnier.

The rainy season lasts from September to December, beginning with light rains in September and gradually becoming heavier and more frequent in the final two months of the year. Except during periods of frequent heavy rain, rough seas, and poor sunrise visibility, you can hike Cuc Dong at other times.

Notes on Getting to Cuc Dong

A Cuc Dong hiking journey usually starts from Dam Mon. You can travel to Dam Mon by coach. If you travel by plane or train, arrive in Nha Trang or Phu Yen, then continue by road to Dam Mon. Once at Dam Mon, you have two options for getting from Dam Mon to Mui Doi: by sea or overland.

By sea, you can hire a boat directly to Van Phong Bay and onward to Mui Doi. This option is quick, but you will miss many beautiful sights. For that reason, the most popular journey is to walk to Cuc Dong so you can admire the scenery and experience nature, then return by boat. On the boat ride back, you will feel yourself drifting across the open sea, with emerald-green water around you. In some sections, you can even see coral reefs hidden beneath the clear water.

Along the hiking route, the scenery changes constantly: sand dunes like a miniature desert, steep mountain climbs, rock faces, and coastal paths all bring their own emotions as you see and cross them.
